In October 2014, Israel was represented at the premier China counter-terror forum when SIGNAL Fellow and ICT scholar Dr Jonathan Fine presented at the 6th annual People’s Public Security University of China’s (PPSUC) International Policing Forum under the auspices of the Ministry of Public Security of China. Since 2009, the PPSUC’s International Policing Forum has been dedicated to the promotion of policing cooperation among nations and regions.
It focuses on exchanges of experiences in counter-terrorism, combating cybercrime, and discussions dealing with regional issues. This year’s forum centered on “counter-terrorism and professional training” and “combating cybercrime and professional training”. The forum was attended by security, counter-terror, and policing experts from nations and regions in Asia, Europe, America, and Oceania.
Dr. Fine, was the first Israeli ever to address the PPSUC. Dr. Fine lectures at the IDC (Interdisciplinary Center, Herzliya) and is Senior Researcher at the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT). His major fields of research are comparative religious political violence, ideologies of terrorist organizations and guerrilla movements, arms control & regional security in the Middle East, US & EU policies in the Middle East, and Israeli Studies. He also lectures at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the IDF Tactical Command College, and the Israeli Air Force Pilots Course. Dr. Fine’s address to the PPSUC International Policing Forum was entitled “Counter-Terrorist Challenges Concerning Religious Groups”.
