A conference organized on the Silk Road Initiative organized by SRTA (Silk Road Think Tank Association) was held in Xiamen from the 5th-8th September. The meeting, organized by the China Center for Contemporary World Studies (CCCWS), was titled Conference on Building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and Advancing International Industrial Cooperation. This was the second SRTA conference, the first being held in Shenzhen, where SIGNAL was represented by its Founder and Executive Director, Carice Witte. Attending the conference were eighty participants from Asian nations, including high level officials, influential think tank leaders, media elites and business people from Maritime Silk Road countries. SIGNAL was honored to be invited to the 2016 conference and to be represented by Meron Medzini of Hebrew University.
At the opening event, Meron Medzini was called to the stage to receive a plaque officially acknowledging SIGNAL as a member of the Silk Road Think Tank Association of China. During the course of the conference, Prof. Medzini also had the opportunity to meet and interact with delegates from countries such as Pakistan, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Korea, and the Philippines. Professor Medzini presented a paper at the conference examining the dynamics of Israel’s involvement with the Belt and Road Initiative. With our regular presence representing Israel at key events on China’s major foreign policy investment program to develop a new silk road, SIGNAL hopes to advance Israel’s role and contribute expertise towards the constructive advancement of this important initiative.
