In 2010, the academic discipline of Israel Studies did not yet exist in China. SIGNAL is privileged to have established the first Israel Studies Program (ISP) within a Chinese university in 2011. Now, with eleven such programs across China, a growing number of students and faculty have the opportunity to gain an academically rigorous and in-depth understanding of Israel and the region.
- SIGNAL Israel Studies Programs are held in eleven universities around China.
- The universities have this year offered around twenty Israel Studies courses on topics ranging from Israeli literature to the history of Israel.
- The visiting lecturers, Meron Medzini (Hebrew University) and Avinoam Idan (Haifa University) conducted SIGNAL Academic Seminars as enrichment to the ISPs over the course of the year.
Research Paper Competitions were held in three ISP universities with topics of winning papers ranging from Sino-Israel relations to the relationship between the politics of Israel and its innovative spirit.
The student surveys evaluating SIGNAL’s work have presented positive feedback with the vast majority reporting the ISP courses influencing their views on Israel. The student surveys evaluating SIGNAL’s work have presented positive feedback with the vast majority reporting the ISP courses influencing their views on Israel.
