Israel and the Belt & Road Initiative (BRI)
Since President Xi’s announcement initiating China’s New Silk Road, over 80 countries, including Israel, have joined in supporting the initiative. China formed the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to support BRI infrastructure projects throughout the BRI community of nations. As a founding member of AIIB, Israel recognized the importance of the BRI to Israel’s economic development and access to Asia. SIGNALs research in this field focuses on where there is synergy between Israel and China in the context of the BRI, both as a potential supplier of innovation, technology and know-how and as a strategically located land bridge connecting Asia, Africa and Europe.
